The Football Association in England is to investigate Sir Alex Ferguson's claim that he was offered a bribe of £44,000 by an agent during the sale of Andrei Kanchelskis to Everton. The Manchester United boss says in his autobiography, "Managing My Life", that he was handed the money in a parcel in 1994.
He notified Manchester United straight away and the money was later handed back. FIFA, the world governing body for soccer, has not yet made an official comment. Sir Alex said that he thought the package was a Russian teapot, but it turned out to be bundles of cash.
Meanwhile, Manchester United's rivals Arsenal have signed Real Madrid and Croatia striker Davor Suker for £3.5 million. Suker’s signing followed the announcement that Arsenal’s teenage star, Nicolas Anelka had signed a seven-year contract with Real Madrid for £23.5 million.
