Row erupts at Flood Tribunal over re-examination of Gogar

A row has erupted at the Flood Tribunal over the circumstances under which the Murphy group's counsel Garett Cooney would be allowed to re-examine witness James Gogarty. The chairman, Mr. Justice Flood, said that he has expected prior notice of the topics that Mr. Cooney wishes to put to Mr Gogarty.

He complained that information, provided by Mr. Cooney before this morning’s hearing, was too vague. Mr. Cooney said that he did not wish to identify in detail the topics, as Mr. Gogarty was a devious witness and he did not plan to give him a chance to exercise his deviousness.

For the second day running, witness James Gogarty has been sent home from Dublin Castle without giving evidence. Today's sitting has been adjourned to allow the tribunal's legal team to check back over the transcripts to date to determine whether Mr. Cooney is entitled to cross-examine Mr. Gogarty again.
