The Green MEP, Patricia McKenna, has sharply criticised the government for supporting membership of the NATO-sponsored Partnership for Peace. Speaking at her party's annual conference in Greystones, Co Wicklow, Ms. McKenna accused the Taoiseach of pulling the wool over the people's eyes on the matter.

The party is launching its candidates for the local and Euro elections at the Conference. So far, over seventy candidates have been selected to run in the local elections and its expected that up to twenty more contestants will be chosen before nominations close in Mid-May.

The party will run three candidates in the Euro elections. The two outgoing MEPs Patricia McKenna and Nuala Ahern will run in Dublin and Leinster respectively. And Waterford-based Ben Nutty will contest the Munster constituency.
