Vox Nostra with Vlad Smishkewych

Sunday 7 – 10am

Vox Nostra with Vlad Smishkewych Sunday 17 December 2017

Vlad in concert with Carlos Nuñez, duet with hurdy-gurdy and gaita, Santiago Cathedral, 22 Nov 2017.

Vlad in concert, singing with Hesperion XXI, Santiago Cathedral, 22 Nov 2017.

Coming up on Vox Nostra on Sunday 28th January 2018.

Christmas season is now a distant memory, but one of the most memorable tunes from the time, 'In dulci jubilo' was written by a man who died this week back in 1629--Hieronymus Praetorius. However, this German composer and organist was also responsible for a number of other wonderful musical works. Unrelated to his arguable more famous and earlier colleague of the same surname, Hieronymus was one of the first German composers to show the influence of the Venetian style. Vlad explores his choral and organ compositions on today's programme, and takes some time to help Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart blow out some candles on his 262nd birthday cake, as well.

Coming up on Vox Nostra on Sunday 4th February 2018.

One of the Renaissance's most recognisable names and sounds was born this week 493 years ago--Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. On this Sunday's Vox Nostra, Vlad brings the wondrous sounds of this composer to your ears with exquisite performances by many early music ensembles familiar to listeners, as well as few new voices from up-and-coming groups. But it's not just voices: historical instrument groups will be on call as well, with recordings featuring Palestrina's works performed on winds and strings from the period. Vlad will take a special look at the unique magnum opus project by choral supergroup The Sixteen: their Palestrina series is specially dedicated to this prolific composer. Explore Renaissance Italy through Palestrina's polyphony, with time to head over to the many other corners of Europe and the world on this Sunday morning's programme.
