Vox Nostra with Vlad Smishkewych Sunday 8 October 2017
Coming up on Vox Nostra. - September 23rd
William Lawes and Giovanni Maria Bononcini's lives only overlapped in time for barely three years, but even so, what these two composers shared in common were professional lives in the employ of royal courts.
On Vox Nostra this week, you'll get to hear the acclaimed viola da gamba ensemble Phantasm play consort music by the English master, who was in the service of Charles the 1st of England most of his life.
There's also chamber music by the Italian Bononcini, father of an important musical dynasty, and speaking of musical lineages, the death anniversary of Manuel Mendes on this day in 1605 gives occasion to hear plenty of music by the Portuguese composer, his contemporaries, and his students.
Vlad in concert with Carlos Nuñez, duet with hurdy-gurdy and gaita, Santiago Cathedral, 22 Nov 2017.
Vlad in concert, singing with Hesperion XXI, Santiago Cathedral, 22 Nov 2017.
Coming up on Vox Nostra on 20th May.
This week sees the lead-up to the Galway Early Music Festival as part of the live music proceedings around the country. Artists from Ireland and all over Europe will descend upon the bay to bring some of the most wonderful tunes and songs to the festival venues.
Medieval music by Alla Francesca, a programme featuring uilleann piper David Power with Camerata Kilkenny, and the voice and lute duo of soprano Aisling Kenny and Ziv Braha are just a few of the highlights of the festival, which we'll get to hear about on Sunday morning's programme.
