Friday November 29th - World Premiere of John Kinsella's Symphony No. 11

Tonight's lyric Concert, presented by Paul Herriott live from the National Concert Hall, Dublin will be broadcast live to listeners all around Europe as part of the European Broadcasting Union's Premium Concert Season. The world premiere of Irish composer John Kinsella's 11th symphony continues his life-long love for the evocative soundworld of Sibelius and the programme also features Sibelius' 3rd symphony. Pianist Vadym Kholodenko joins the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Jean Deroyer for a performance of Prokofiev's 3rd piano concerto. In our interval, John Kinsella chats to about his life and work, and composing his 11th Symphony. (Produced for Athena Media for RTÉ lyric fm. Paul Herriott presents a concert live from the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Chief conductor Jaime Martín returns to conduct the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra with the violinist Ellinor D'Melon (Photo Kaupo Kikkas) for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. The concert also features the Irish Premiere of Albert Schnelzer's Burn My Letters: Remembering Clara, written in tribute to the pioneering composer. Based on her letters to life-long family friend Johannes Brahms - Clara voiced by wild and free flute, Brahms by a more controlled and cautious bassoon - it's an intriguing, enchanting, intimate and illuminating dialogue between the fellow composers.

Hear the entire 2019/2020 RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra Season live on The Lyric Concert

Starting this September, you can hear Paul Herriott live every Friday night from the National Concert Hall, Dublin. The season sees 43 performances between September 2019 and May 2020 at the National Concert Hall and marks the first with the orchestra’s new Chief Conductor, the Spanish conductor Jaime Martín. 

Alongside six concerts with the orchestra’s Chief Conductor Jaime Martín and four concerts with Principal Guest Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann are appearances by international artists including Leonard Slatkin (two performances), Maxim Vengerov, Julia Bullock, Viktoria Mullova, Robert Trevino, Diego Matheuz, JoAnn Falletta, Anja Bihlmaier, Mikhail Jurowski, Christian Reif, David Brophy (two performances), Brian Byrne, Mary Black, Rita Connolly, Anna Devin, Fiachra Garvey, Ailish Tynan and Gavan Ring.
