A new work by Gerald Barry is always an event. Commissioned by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the composer describes his Organ Concerto as 'a stormy conversation between organist and orchestra' and we hear it tonight with soloist Thomas Trotter (organ). The programme also includes Brahms' Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn and Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony, performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stefan Asbury (photo Eric Richmond).
