Sound Out Sunday 7 February 2021
Guitarist Ferenc Snetberger and the Keller Quartett (below) are highly regarded in their native Hungary, and their new live album featuring music by Shostakovich, Dowland and Barber pays tribute to victims of war and oppression. We'll hear excerpts tonight including Snetberger’s 'In Memory of My People’, a work he dedicated to his Roma forebears which uses a folk melody passed down by his grandmother. We’ll also explore the debut album from soprano Katharina Konradi, songs by Strauss, Mozart and Schubert recorded with pianist Daniel Heide.
Sound Out marks Early Music Day 2021 with a concert spanning five centuries featuring German violist Nils Mönkemeyer (photo Irène Zandel) and experimental lutenist and guitarist Andreas Arend. Using transmitters and receivers the duo create 'feedback', resulting in a sequence of music that reverberates from the past to the present and back again. Recorded at the renowned Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, tonight we’ll enjoy a seamless programme of music by Marais, Bach, Coltrane and Hendrix.
You can now hear our playlists each week on Spotify, and where possible we'll include all the music featured on the programme.
