Opera Night with Paul Herriott

Paul Herrriott brings us to the Archbishop's Theatre, Aix-en-Provence for the Aix-en-Provence Festival for a production of Mozart's Don Giovanni.

Saturday July 21st - Mozart's Cosi fan tutte

Manipulating the action are the Don Alfonso of Roberto de Candia and the Despina of Lucia Cirillo (pictured), with Federica Lombardi, Annalisa Stroppa, Andre Schuen and Francesco Marsigila as the pairs of young lovers who test each other's faithfulness. Diego Fasolis conducts the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio Turin and the Teatro Regio Chorus.

Saturday July 28thDer Freischütz (The Marksman)

Wagner said this early-Romantic gem was the most German of German operas. Its irresistible mic of colourful folklore, the spooky supernatural, a tender romance and the passionate struggle between good and evil are all captured in Weber's tuneful and dramatic score. Tonight's production comes from the Vienna State Opera. Andreas Schager is our hero the forester Max, who must win a shooting contest in order to marry his beloved Agathe, sung by Camilla Nylund, despite the dark plotting of Caspar, sung by Alan Held. The Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus is conducted by Tomas Netopil. (The cast of Der Freischutz - photo Wiener Staatsoper, Michael Pohn)
