Opera Night with Paul Herriott

Opera Night presented by Paul Herriott. Tonight, we bring you Puccini's Tosca.

Saturday August 25th

British director David Alden directs a new production of Wagner’s Lohengrin, the first new staging of this opera at the Royal Opera House since 1977. Alden’s vision for the opera situates the opera in a bombed-out city, a dystopian world threatened from the outside, where the people are looking for both a sense of direction and a leader. Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons conducts a cast including German tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, fellow Latvian Kristine Opolais and American soprano Christine Goerke.  (Pictured - Klaus Florian Vogt as Lohengrin, Thomas J. Saturday September 1st

Vincenzo Bellini made his début at La Scala in 1827, setting the scene for a long collaboration with librettist Felice Romani. The last staging in 1958 of Il Pirata at La Scala featured Maria Callas as protagonist. Today, the forbidding part of Imogene is sung by Sonya Yoncheva, no doubt the most acclaimed soprano for this repertoire. The Orchestra and Chorus of La Scala is under the baton of Riccardo Frizza.
