Ian McGlynn presents this week, and includes some of his favourite soundtracks from stage and screen.
For the first time in history in 2015, an all-women creative team won the Tony Award for Best Original Score in a Musical, Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron for their musical, Fun Home. Around the same time on Broadway two other musicals written by female composers and lyricists enjoyed great success; Waitress with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and The Color Purple whose song-writing team included Brenda Russell and Allee Willis. Aedín includes songs from these musicals this afternoon as well as a selection of films scored by female composers; Debbie Wiseman (Wilde), Lesley Barber (Manchester by the Sea), Anne Dudley (Elle) and Rachel Portman (Emma).
