The Lyric Concert - Silver for Best Live Sound - Music (Tom Norton)
The aim of RTÉ Radio sound in this particular performance and transmission on RTÉ Lyric fm was three fold. a) To binaurally record and transmit a performance of the National Symphony Orchestra from the National Concert hall. The programme was broadcast as an extremely high quality DAB+ binaural transmission on RTÉ Lyric fm. b) To highlight the benefits of Binaural recording using the most advanced audio recording techniques and equipment in Ireland. c) To marry the concept of Binaural audio with 360 degree video.
The broadcast took place on Friday the 12th May 2017. It differed from a normal Lyric fm Friday night concert in that it involved a simulcast of two separate mixes of the concert to two different listening platforms. As the recording submitted was as broadcast live and binaurally via the Lyric FM DAB+ simulcast, It is recommended to listen to the audio file with headphones to fully experience binaural audio.
