Like Beethoven, Jean Sibelius loved the countryside. He also loved his home country of Finland, and wrote a great piece of music that described important moments in the history of Finland. We'll hear it this morning, plus some musical jokes composed by Mozart and Haydn!

Sunday August 28th, 10am

The English composer William Walton wrote a set of piano pieces for his niece Elizabeth to play but they were too difficult for her, so he re-wrote them as duets for her to play with her brother Michael. We'll hear some of his Music for Children this morning, including the Music Lesson, Hop-Scotch and The Three-Legged Race. We'll also hear performances by some very talented young orchestras from around the world, including the energetic Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. Watch their incredibly energetic performance of Leonard Bernstein's Mambo below...

Classical Kids

We'll hear music written for a cuckoo, a bluebird and a lark today, plus Spanish guitar music by Falla, an Argentine tango by Piazzolla and a Chinese lullaby played on the erhu.
