Sunday August 2nd
We'll hear music inspired by visits to different countries around the world today - the Brazilian Scaramouche Suite by Milhaud, the New World Symphony by Dvorak and the Hebrides Overture by Mendelssohn. We'll also listen to 'Songs Before Sleep' by Richard Rodney Bennett, a collection of beautiful new versions of our favourite nursery rhymes including Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star.
Sunday August 9th
Ferde Grofe worked as a milkman, a truck driver and an elevator operator before becoming a piano player in a bar and eventually a composer. His first big success was arranging Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue for orchestra, but on Sunday we'll hear part of his Grand Canyon Suite, which includes music written for a thunderstorm. We’ll also hear music played by some of the percussion instruments, including a xylophone.
