Leading brands such as Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, DAF and Volvo were all in contention for the Irish Truck of the Fleet Transport Decade award. And there was one clear winner - the Mercedes-Benz Actros IV.
"This accolade is another feather in the cap of the multi-award-winning Mercedes-Benz Actros," said Jarlath Sweeney, Editor, Fleet Transport Magazine.
"Shortly after its introduction in 2011, the fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz Actros won the coveted title of International Truck of the Year and then went on to win the Irish Truck of the Year.
"It was the first truck to fully comply with Euro 6 engine emission legislation while improving on the fuel economy of the previous Euro 5 generation III model...
"The new Actros set a benchmark with its stylish aerodynamic cab, excellent ride and handling and driver comfort.
"It is no surprise, therefore, that the Actros IV has won over so many conquest sales throughout Europe. A worthy winner of the Irish Truck of the Fleet Transport Decade."
Fergus Conheady, Sales Manager, Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Ireland, said: "Great news on the Actros 4 winning the first ever Fleet Transport Truck of the Decade award! Naturally, we're all delighted!"
The presentation of the award in association with RSA Insurance will be made at the Fleet Transport Awards 2014 Gala Dinner at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin on October 10 next.
