This flagship version of SEAT Ireland's top-selling model packs a mighty punch at significantly less than its key rivals.

Priced at €22,875, it comes in several thousand euro less than equivalent competitor models, yet matches them in terms of performance and standard equipment.

At this price, SEAT says, "Ibiza Cupra offers the most amount of horsepower, for the least amount of money of any new car on sale in Ireland today."

The Ibiza Cupra comes in three-door guise only and is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI engine putting out 180hp and 250nm of torque, while a unique sound actuator in the exhaust system gives the engine note a sweet soundtrack.

Performance is impressive, with 0-100km/h taking just 6.9 seconds with a potential top-speed of 228km/h.

However, with a fuel economy potential of 5.9 l/100km and emissions of just 139g/km, annual road tax is just €280, which is low given the performance on offer.

Performance brakes come as standard but there is the option of an 'AP' performance brake system for €1,271.

An XDS electronic differential lock is standard on the car, which reduces the tendency to under-steer and improves handling through fast corners.
