Sales of luxury brands globally continue to grow, and Bentley Motors looks set to tap further into those with deep pockets with an awesome 'Off-Roader'.

Bentley Motors has released the first picture of the Bentley SUV, due to hit roads in 2016.

Bentley says it will be the most luxurious and powerful SUV on the market, setting it apart from any other SUV and true to the brand hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship.

Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive at Bentley Motors, said at a press conference in London: "It will create a completely new segment in the SUV market."

The SUV forms part of Bentley's £800-million investment in new model and facilities development in the next three years.

The company anticipates a minimum annual sales volume of 3,000 SUVs. 

2013 was a record year for Bentley: one in every four luxury cars delivered to customers worldwide was a Bentley.

Global customer deliveries grew to 10,120 cars.

The Americas remained Bentley's largest sales region, with 3,140 cars delivered.

China retained its position as the second biggest market with 2,191 cars, while in Europe deliveries reached 1,480 cars.

Sales in Bentley's home market, the UK, were 1,381, followed closely by the Middle East.
