Build out your Theme

Choosing your colour theme is the most important task when planning your tableware setting. Traditional reds and luxurious golds are the call of the day for Christmas 2020 as families around the country look to add a warm and cosy atmosphere to their home.

Once you have settled on a colour scheme, choose a show-stopping centrepiece and build your table decor out using wreaths and garlands.

Head of Creative and Visual Merchandising at Kilkenny Design, Fearghal Kavanagh, says:

"First, plan ahead for all the crockery and glassware you will be using on your dining table that day and ensure it's prepped the night before you are hosting. Make sure you choose a centrepiece for the table, one that relates in some way to the rest of your theme."

"I always use garlands as a runner for my dining table, it really adds a wholesome festive look. Start decorating with your chosen centrepiece, add the runner and/or garland, then crockery and glassware and place additional serving bowls or cutlery somewhere close to hand so it’s ready to go when the food is ready. The final step is standing back to review your Christmas table and asking yourself, is it balanced?"
