TRTÉ, a special channel for young people's programmes on RTÉ2, is getting a brand new series from Irish sporting legend Bernard Dunne. In the new six-part series Bernard Dunne's Mythical Heroes, the former world champion brings to life the heroes of Irish mythology. Each episode is the story of a superhero from Irish mythology such as Oisín, Setanta and Fionn MacCumhaill told through docu/drama reconstruction and animation.

We caught up with Bernard to find out how he got involved with RTÉ.

The idea came to me from reading stories to my kids at night time and I realized that none of the stories I was reading were about some of our great, some of our own, legends so I decided to try and do something about that.

Finally, Bernard explains what he, as a parent, enjoys about the channel.

I think the thing I enjoy about RTÉ jr is there's something for all age groups, there's something for different interests.
