The countdown is on for the National Ploughing Championships and #Ploughing16 is trending again today, no doubt it'll be trending until close of play on Thursday September 22. Tuesday 22nd is when it all kicks off, and we are all patiently waiting for it begin - no doubt #rteploughing will be trending from then too ahead of the three-day RTÉ coverage. Among the eagerly waiting is Ploughing Live presenter Marty Morrissey, who will be coming to you live again this year, alongside Áine Lawlor. We spoke to Marty about all things ploughing.

This year is the second year that Marty and Áine will be broadcasting live from the championships. With one year's experience under the belts at the ploughing, we asked what we can expect from them at the 2016 championships, "A lot of fun, a lot of craic I hope. There'll be a bit about the ploughing [the actual championship competition] as well. I'm really looking foward to it.

Last year was our first year doing it, and the ploughing is one of those fabulous events: it's a carnival, it's a festival, it's informative, it's cultural, it has a bit of everything.

Our aim on the programme is to give you a snapshot of that, from 7.00-7.30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, RTÉ 1, and hopefully everyone at home will love it."

When asked about his highlight from last year, his memory will surely ring a bell with many Irish people, "my favourite highlight last year was the fact that I was sent up on a pole, way up into the sky, and Áine, my good friend and colleague, was allowed in the studio and bake bread!

"And I said how'd you manage to pull that off? So I'm trying to make sure this time that I'm not doing anything stupid, and she goes!"

It's clear that Marty is a true fan of the National Ploughing Championships. This is down to the team he works with, "genuinely I love working with Áine Lawlor, I just think she's a gem, and I love working with the team on Ploughing Live, and I suppose the other thing is I love meeting the people of Ireland.

"They come from everywhere. I have to say I went for a couple of years just to have a look around before I was working there and it's just a fabulous event. There's a whole new adventure, we're moving from Laois to Offaly, so to go around Tullamore and meet all the people and see what's happening in the world.

That's the beauty of it. It's not just about agriculture and farming, there's a bit of everything there. So it doesn't matter whether you're from Belfast city, Dublin city, Cork city, ploughing is for you, and I guarantee you, you come once, you'll come again and again."
