Speaking to Dermot for RTÉ LifeStyle, Brian said: "My passion for gardening started when I was a child, and my father gave me a small flower bed to plant.
"In 1975 I built my own house and gardened there on 1/4 acre. This garden featured on Gardeners World, RTE, UTV and Channel 4.
"In 1985 the late Pat Murphy and I opened Murphy & Wood Garden Centre on Johnstown Rd in Dun Laoghaire. [T. 01-2854855, w: murphyandwoodgardencentre.com]."
In his Dalkey-based home and garden, he
"Here we specialise in rare and unusual plants," he explained from his Dalkey home and garden, "We run the garden centre in an old world way with the emphasis on plants and planting guidance."
His influences come from far and wide: "I love travelling and have visited Japan many times, where I have been so influenced that, when I downsized to my present house I designed my courtyard garden on a Japanese theme.
"Though the garden is only 8 x 8m it contains a huge variety of plants to keep my interest alive."
