For the fourth week of our summer themes across RTÉ Lifestyle, this week it's the turn of the afternoon tea phenomenon...

We have a jam-packed (no pun intended) week celebrating everything about afternoon tea and garden parties this week on RTÉ Food and across the RTÉ Lifestyle websites.

To kick off the week, check out our gallery on RTÉ Homes of the best afternoon tea accessories on the high street from the likes of Debenhams, Paperchase, Dunnes Stores and Clerys. We have carefully selected over 30 of the best tea time trinkets which would be perfect for use in the garden on a warm, sunny summer’s day, paired with a selection of finger food and mini cakes.

Mid-way through the week, we have a big feature on the best afternoon tea recipes we have on the site. Finger sandwiches are pretty straightforward (while still being a joy to create and assemble) so we have compiled a selection of a little more difficult things like petit fours, battenberg and other sweet bakes for that perfect afternoon tea session at home.

Over on RTÉ Travel, Ed Leahy visits Dublin’s Gresham Hotel, centrally located on bustling O’Connell Street, to sample their afternoon tea selection. We also have a very exciting afternoon tea themed competition with the Gresham running throughout this week, get your entry in now!

If you’re interested in perfecting your baking skills and planning a bake sale or a tea celebration, look out for our round-up of the best baking classes across the country from the top cookery schools including Ballyknocken, Belfast Cookery School, Galway’s Aniar Cookery School and Cooks Academy in Dublin.

For the fourth week of our guest features from the top Irish food bloggers, we have Dermot O’Sullivan from Gas Mark Seven waxing lyrical on enchanting afternoon tea with some delicious cake and pastry recipes and beautiful photography.

As with each week we will be taking to Twitter and Facebook to talk with our fans and followers about our theme, this week using the hashtag #AfternoonTea.
