Two Dublin restaurants have picked up awards at the World Luxury Restaurant Awards 2020, adding yet another boost to Dublin's exciting food scene.
In a year marked by closures – temporary and permanent – adapting, readapting and uncertainty for the food industry, awards have come flooding in for Irish hospitality and produce from around the world, and the latest awards are particularly impressive.
Dublin's SOLE and FIRE restaurants have both picked up highly coveted awards at this year's World Luxury Restaurant Awards. SOLE won "Best Seafood Restaurant in Europe", while FIRE won "Global Steakhouse of the Year".
Founded in 2015, the World Luxury Restaurant Awards celebrate – you guessed it – luxury dining experiences around the world. The restaurants, split into specific categories, are voted on by over 100,000 guests, travellers and industry players during a four-week period.
It's an incredible win for the two restaurants, which are sister restaurants and both Irish-owned. Open 15 years this year, FIRE has been serving up flame-grilled steaks and other delights for years.
It's particularly well-known for its location: right beside the Mansion House on Dublin's Dawson Street and with a memorable dining room. Originally built in 1864 as the Lord Mayor's 'Supper Room', its dining room is draped with dark curtains and hemmed in with exposed brick walls.
Meanwhile SOLE champions Irish seafood, with the South William Street spot specialising in fresh seafood towers and oysters. The restaurant had won the award last year, too.
Speaking on the wins, Culinary Director of both restaurants chef Richie Wilson said: "I am so proud to be part of the team who have truly earned the recognition that these awards give us. Winning "Best Global Steakhouse" with FIRE is incredible.

"This could only have come from the passionate driving force that is our team, following the enhancements we have made to both the dining room and our menus. Sometimes it's harder to retain an award than win it, so for SOLE to have received the award for 'Best Luxury Seafood Restaurant in Europe’ once again shows how aligned our teams are, consistently delivering a truly special dining experience in FIRE and SOLE."
The awards celebrated some of the top restaurants in the world, and the list certainly offers plenty of travel inspiration. ESCA Cairo was announced as the Global Restaurant of the Year 2020, the chic spot in the heart of Heliopolis serving up a modern take on Mediterranean and International cuisine.
Bertram's Restaurant in the UK picked up two awards, the Best Luxury Brasserie and Best Luxury Spa Restaurant, while Spain's Hotel Restaurante Vinas de Larrede won the award from Most Romantic Atmosphere.
