New York Fashion Week is set to showcase its first ever plus size designer in its 70 year history.
US women’s wear brand Cabiria, which caters for women between sizes 12- 24, was asked to debut its spring/summer 2013 collection at the Fashion Law Institute at the Lincoln Centre on September 6.
The label was started by costume designer Eden Miller who told Fashionista: “I’m incredibly excited and so stoked about it.”
She added: “..there’s a certain amount of pressure to show that this is still high fashion, that this is part of the fabric of the fashion world as it is now, in 2013.”
According to Cabiria’s website the label fills “a niche for plus-size women who want high quality clothing, unusual fabrics, and who aren't afraid to be noticed”, however Miller is hoping that the fact her label is plus-size will be seen as a non-issue.
She said: “I’m really hoping that it’s seen just as the other offerings at fashion week.”
She added: “It’s not the freak show on the side.”
