Paris Couture Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012

Couture fashion is all about escapism – I don’t ever try and kid myself that I’ll ever add a haute couture piece to my wardrobe, but poring over the Paris Couture Fashion Week photos is one of the joys of following fashion!
All eyes were on Christian Dior when they kicked off the proceedings on Monday with a show that perhaps did not live up to the inventiveness or theatricality of the John Galliano days, but certainly impressed with its lush couture creations. We’re sure to see these dresses grace red carpets the world over in the coming months.
Making a return to the couture catwalk was Versace Atelier, who has not shown at couture fashion week since 2004. It was a worthy hiatus, for Donatella brought a fantastic mix of evening gowns in nudes and neons. Traditional fabrics like lace were given a modern makeover with sheer panelling and futuristic peplums. Utterly divine!
The eagerly anticipated Chanel couture show did not disappoint, in fact I loved almost every single piece in the collection. One of Karl Lagerfeld’s strongest shows, it took inspiration from ‘60s air hostesses and was staged inside a custom-built Chanel jet! Now that’s dedication. One of the trends that I hope filters down to the red carpet is the inclusion of pockets on many of the dresses, a sure-fire way to add an air of chic nonchalance to any ensemble!
Model of the week has got to be Karlie Kloss, who has taken over from Freja as the Model of the Moment. She looked amazing stomping the catwalk for Chanel, Dior and Versace.
Front row favourite has to go to Diane Kruger for her get-up at the Giambattista Valli show. If only we could pull off a cropped fur gilet over a gold and black feathered dress. Fearless as always!
