We catch up with Catriona Barry and Barbara McDonagh to find out a little more about their new accessory line.
Georgina Heffernan: The vintage influence is evident in most of your creations - why are you inspired by the styles of yesteryear?
Ruffled Ruby: It is the attention to detail and amazing craftsmanship that went into the creations that has inspired Ruffled Ruby. The quality of design, level of detail and the time spent creating is admirable. Quality can often be jeopardised in the process of modern day mass production so we feel that our designs pay homage to the eminence and timeless quality of vintage accessories and their designers.
Where do you get the ideas for your creations?
We brainstorm ideas together and very often we are inspired by the materials we are working with from intricate beaded lace to a whimsical vintage brooch. Also from clients, discussing their requirements, hearing about their beautiful dress and the style they wish to achieve will generate a vision for the design.
Are there any celebrities that inspire your style?
Imelda May is an inspirational Irish woman, she wears the rockabilly fashion with style and sophistication. Alexa Chung has fantastic style, she mixes a lot of vintage with modern high street fashion which shows how versatile vintage pieces can be. We’ve also been drawn in by the Mad Men ladies, Christine Hendricks and January Jones look absolutely amazing on screen.
Is it difficult to compete with the highstreet, in terms of price and quality?
Budget is hugely important when it comes to wedding planning and we offer a range of bouquets, buttonholes and corsages to suit. With a Ruffled Ruby piece you get attention to detail and quality bespoke design.
Where do you see your company going in the future?
We want to build our client base, advance and refine our design process and work with our clients needs to adapt and diversify our products. This includes constantly sourcing and experimenting with new quality materials for our original designs. We are currently working on expanding the range to include a “something blue” range. We are also working on a predesigned range of wedding accessories which will be available to purchase directly from our website.
And lastly, where is Ruffled Ruby available to buy?
