When it comes to packing for a staycation, I always find myself in the same predicament - how can I pack all my essential beauty bits without taking up half the boot? To give us all a helping hand this summer, I’ve compiled a list of some handy products (many of them Irish) that have made the cut for my next road trip.
IMAGE Prevention Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturiser SPF50, €49.50 in Millies
While we’ve all hopefully been reaching for the SPF throughout the summer, it’s incredibly important to be consistent with protecting our skin in all weather conditions. Having tried a multitude of different SPFs, this Image SPF 50 is one I purchase time and time again.
It’s a broad spectrum moisturiser which protects against both UVA and UVB rays. It is also water resistant which makes it ideal for long summer days and doesn’t cause break-outs. Its light moisturising texture melts into the skin without feeling greasy or leaving a whitecast synonymous with most high factor sun screens.
The best way to apply this is to clean, dry skin at least 30 minutes before going out. My top tip is after applying to the face, neck and décolletage is to apply any residue to the backs of your hands - a commonly forgotten area which is usually exposed to the sun.
Bare by Vogue Self Tan Foam, €21.00 in O'Sullivans
While this range has been around for some time, my recent obsession with the hit podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me hosted by comedienne Joanne McNally and golden girl Vogue Williams brought it to the forefront of my mind.
Whether you want to be bronze for the beach or are after that post-staycation glow, the line comes in a variety of textures to suit your needs. The streak-free formula blends seamlessly into the skin and develops in 4-8 hours depending on how sunkissed you want to be. Formulated to be cruelty-free and safe for expectant mothers it boasts skin loving ingredients such as goji berry and chamomile.
Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Colour Correcting Treatment 15ml, €15.00 in Brown Thomas
If you’re a TikTok addict like myself, you’ve probably heard of this product. These viral videos show shocked individuals massaging this product into their skin and it transforms from green to perfectly match their skin tone.
It left their skin looking natural yet perfected and needless to say I purchased it immediately. The green hue of the product works to cancel out any redness and even the skin tone. I have been using this religiously as a foundation alternative and it’s been especially handy in the recent heat.
This is best applied to clean, moisturised skin and can be set with powder to ensure all day wear. This product is also available in both 15ml and 50ml - ideal for any sized travel bag.
Clarins Water Lip Stain, €21.50
Lip stains are the ideal product for a no makeup-makeup look that's but subtle and long lasting. As the name suggests, these stains have a watery texture that glides onto lips leaving the perfect amount of colour without any stickiness. They are also mask-friendly which is a huge bonus.
My favourite shades are 08 Candy Water - the perfect peachy-pink and 09 Deep Red Water - a beautiful 'your lips but better' rose. If you want added definition, line your lips with a complimentary liner before applying the stain. Alternatively for a soft just-kissed effect, concentrate the stain on the centre of the lips and blend outward.
SK Collection 9 Piece Make-Up Brush Set, €89.00 in SarahKeary.ie
Throughout the summer, I have packed and re-packed my getaway bag numerous times and this brush set has become a staple for my travel and everyday makeup bags. Created by Irish makeup artist Sarah Keary, the kit itself has all the necessary brushes to take you from any day to night look.
The navy case also pops up to provide you with the ideal brush holder. Topped with luxuriously soft bristles and finished with tapered navy handles with gold ferrules- these brushes are both ergonomic and glam. The brushes are suitable for both powder and cream products.
