While the British Royal family is defined by their classic and quintessentially British sense of style, the Spanish monarchy has long impressed with its bolder take on royal fashion, and leading the style pack is Queen Letizia herself.
Always impeccably dressed and polished, the Queen – who before marrying into the royal family in 2004 was a news anchor for CNN+ – is celebrated for her striking fashion choices, often choosing rich colours, intricate designs and perfectly matched accessories.
Her latest appearance was no different, as the Queen stepped out with her husband King Felipe VI for the opening night of the Teatro Real in Madrid. The couple were attending the premiere of Un Ballo in Maschera, an 1859 opera by Giuseppe Verdi, and certainly dressed the part.
Letizia stepped out in a stunning red lace sleeveless cocktail dress by Carolina Herrera, featuring a high neckline and full A-line skirt. With a striking red lace pattern almost all over, the dress was kept modern by its block red bandeau detailing along the hem and neckline.
She paired her dress with vibrant red suede sling back heels by Carolina Herrera that matched her dress perfectly, and finished her look with an intricately decorated gold clutch back by Carolina Herrara and simple gold hoop earrings. Her hair was worn in a classic full and bouncy blow-dry, while her makeup was kept dark and smokey, ideal for a night at the opera.
As always, the Queen added her protective face mask to her outfit, as they are mandatory in Spain at the moment.
It's not the first time we've seen this elegant dress on the Queen, as she first wore it in 2017 for the 40th anniversary of the 1977 Spanish election. At that time, she paired it with nude pointed toe stilettos, a large red satin clutch bag.
She repeated this entire outfit in 2018 for the Princess of Asturias Awards winners meeting, and then in 2019 she added her Carolina Herrera sling backs fora visit to the World Sustainable Urban Food Centre of València.
