The MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, August 30, in New York City with a socially distanced, virtual ceremony hosted by actress and singer Keke Palmer.
As is usual with events in 2020, live audiences and traditional red carpets were put on hold but there were a number of performances from big names such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Doja Cat.

The VMAs are typically known for hosting a young and dynamic group of stars who go all out for the red carpet and have fun with their looks.
Unlike more formal red carpet events, such as the Grammys or the Oscars, you're much more likely to see a blue bodysuit from Mugler (as seen on Ariana Grande) or a pink polo neck from Berluti (as seen on Machine Gun Kelly) than a formal tux or gown.
As usual, Lady Gaga made a splash on the red carpet, transforming her look throughout the night with a series of eye-catching outfits.
The eccentric singer managed to pull off a series of outfits ranging from an astronaut-chic number from Area and dystopian feathers from Iris van Herpen to futuristic bodysuits from Maison Valentino and a silk taffeta ball skirt from Christopher John Rogers - all while rocking a series of stylish face masks.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, Miley Cyrus dazzled in an embroidered dress and gloves from Mugler's Fall/Winter 2020 line.
The singer paired the look with a statement red lip, cropped blonde hair, gold hoop earrings, and a chunky gold necklace.
