The roll out of Primark outlets will begin on the east coast, with a 70,000 sq ft store opening in the historic Burnham Building in Boston, Massachusetts late next year.

Associated British Foods, which owns Primark, said in a statement: "After extensive research, it has been decided to take the concept to consumers in the USA."

The site in Boston, which is currently being renovated, previously housed the famous Filene's Department Store.

Negotiations are currently under way to open further stores in the north east, through to the middle of 2016. The company will also open warehouses in the region to support the expansion.
