Come summer, we often feel healthy, light, and happy - and we want a look that reflects that. A good way to start is to overhaul your makeup bag. Swap out the heavy foundation, eyeliner, and blush for lighter bronzer, lip gloss, and eye shadow. In minutes, your outer beauty will reflect your inner beauty. Here are a few tips on how to achieve a natural, sun kissed look by makeup artist Anne O’Donovan.

TIP ONE – I cannot emphasise enough that every great makeup look starts with a clean face whatever the season! For summer simplicity I would always recommend a light liquid foundation, tinted moisturiser or BB cream for a beautiful glow and a thicker concealer on any problem areas (always ensure your product has an SPF, otherwise make sure to apply sunscreen).

Although a lot of the makeup on the fashion runways for summer featured fresh and bare faces which is achieved by proper application and blending, they also injected pops of colour either on the eyes or lips. My favourite colour palettes extends from soft earth tones through luminous bronze all the way to intense coral and mint green.

TIP TWO – Bronzer adds warmth and a sun kissed glow, using very light strokes apply the bronzer on the lower edge of the cheekbones blending from the ear towards the apple of the cheek. Softly blend the bronzer up to your temples and where appropriate/lightly a wash to any areas you think you would naturally tan. For that dewy summer kissed look apply a peachy/pink toned blush to the cheeks.

If you want to bring an extra dimension to your makeup look apply some illuminating shimmer to the upper edge of the cheekbone with a little touch to your cupid’s bow - with an illuminating product less is more!

Now onto the eyes, to be honest this part is personal preference, with this year’s summer trends we have the best of both worlds, either rich shades of blue turquoise and mint green through to a natural eye with a touch of mascara to the top and bottom lashes - not forgetting to curl those lashes first! Finish by applying your choice of lip colour, be it a vibrant pop of pink or a light touch of gloss.

This summer you have a world of choice, so let me introduce you to my new love affair with ARTDECO Cosmetics who have given us the opportunity to give our makeup a colourful and healthy revamp, it has your summer beauty all wrapped up in one with a brand new bronzing collection called Tribal Sunset. In conclusion, to emphasise this summer’s mix of strong versus subtle makeup, play up the features you want to draw attention too with colour or a touch of sparkle!
