Michelle Obama isn't one to play it safe with her dress choices, and this beautiful red gown she wore last night for a state dinner was no exception.
The First Lady chose a red silk organza gown with a subtle black print by Alexander McQueen for the event, which she and President Barack Obama hosted in honour of the Chinese president, Hu Jintao.
This is a daring choice - you may expect her to go for an American designer for an occasion like this - but Michelle never likes to take the obvious route.
The off the shoulder detail and voluminous draped skirt are wonderful, and the vivid shade of the material is tempered by the beautiful delicate print.
We could have done with this sort of fashion-moxie on the red carpet at the Golden Globes!
