'Sex and the City' star Sarah Jessica Parker has taken on a special new role at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Women's Wear Daily reports that Parker has recorded the audio guide for the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibition at the Museum.

This year's exhibition, which opens on 5 May, is entitled 'American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity' and covers from the 1890s to 1940s.

The institute's curator, Andrew Bolton, said of Parker: "Because of 'Sex and the City', she is so much associated with New York and with America, and with using fashion as a way to shape identity."
