Virgin - 2004 - 35 minutes
A Dublin band singing about California may have seemed as silly as one from San Diego penning odes to Blackrock and Cabinteely, but The Thrills' debut worked. Before the nights had closed in last year, however, came the realisation that they couldn't get away with making the same album again.
And so 'Let's Bottle Bohemia' is that little bit wider and darker - there's even a skeleton on the cover. Here the choruses from which there is no escape sit with stories of faded potential ('Whatever Happened to Corey Haim?'), hopes dashed and lyrics like "I'm just a man...not even a great one" and "It's not like I've got time on my side".
Even thought there's no defining moment, 'Let's Bottle Bohemia' is strong the whole way through and if The Thrills think there's trouble in paradise, it still sounds like a nice place to visit.
