Gurt

"Party doom band" Gurt have released their Survival of the Shittest EP, which includes a cover of 2Unlimited's No Limit. We asked the band’s singer Gareth Kelly the BIG questions . . .

The band’s version of No Limit features a guest appearance from 'Black Mist’, lead vocalist of hardcore band The Hell.

Speaking about their new EP, Gurt say, "As a band we have a real mix of musical tastes, from the heaviest of heavy to the cheesiest of cheese.

"We've always loved to do unexpected and weird covers and have a firm belief that a good riff is a good riff regardless of where it's from. No Limit has always gone hard and we're proud to say that our version goes even harderer!!"

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I am Gareth, the vocalist of Gurt.

I also have a day job working for the incredible music charity, The Music Venue Trust, who work to secure, protect and improve grassroots music venues across the UK.

I have an obsession with LEGO, so much so I have an entire outbuilding filled with hundreds or sets on display, mainly Empire related Star Wars stuff.

How would you describe your music?

Filthy, party doom!

Who are your musical inspirations?

I love all things Nu Metal and early noughties UK Metal. From Earthtone9 to Raging Speedhorn. Vocally, it would be Dani Filth and Grady Avenell, which I feel is quite obvious when you hear me scream.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Deftones and Will Haven at the Portsmouth Pyramid centre in 1998. Will Haven opened with I’ve seen my fate and I instantly lost my shoes!

What was the first record you ever bought?

With my own money, I bought Metallica’s Load on cassette. Still one of my favourite albums to date.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Probably Muse’s latest single Cryogen. Another of my all-time favourite bands?

Favourite lyric of all time?

"If you want a double entendre, I'll give you one!" -

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

An impossible ask, but if I had to pick it would be Celebrate Your Mother by Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Bandcamp and all streaming services like Apple and the evil Spotify.
