Tributes have been paid to Reed Mullin, the drummer and co-founder of the metal band Corrosion of Conformity (COC), who has passed away at the age of 53.
Mullin's passing was announced by his COC bandmates on social media. A cause of death was not disclosed.
"It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, a brother and pioneer," they wrote. "Reed you are loved and always will be."

Mullin co-founded Corrosion of Conformity with guitarist Woody Weatherman and bassist Mike Dean in Raleigh, North Carolina in the early 1980s. The band became pioneers of the 'crossover sound', which mixed punk and metal, and released the seminal records An Eye for An Eye (1984) and Animosity (1985).
As COC's sound developed in the 1990s they found a wider audience with the release of two more landmark albums, Blind (1991) and Deliverance (1994). The band's most recent album, No Cross No Crown, was released in January 2018.

I met Reed Mullin only once when COC cruised through Toronto in 1990. Even that brief meeting was memorable & I got a pretty sweet story out of it (that has to do with this exact photo). Always thought COC were the coolest band on the scene and Reed the coolest. RIP Reed Mullin pic.twitter.com/O7ZgGb8T5d
