EastEnders star Danny Walters has apologised for his "immature comments" after historic tweets in which he used a homophobic slur were unearthed.

The actor, who plays mechanic Keanu Taylor in the BBC soap, posted the now-deleted tweets back in 2012 during a conversation with a friend when he was 19-years-old.

Danny is "very sorry" for the offensive comments

Danny, 25, has now apologised for the comments and told MailOnline in a statement: "I am very sorry for posting these immature comments to a friend when I was 19-years-old.

"It’s not language I would ever use now and I’d like to apologise to anyone I’ve offended."

A friend close to Danny told Digital Spy he is "absolutely mortified" the comments have "come back to bite him", adding he "doesn't have a bad bone in him".

Last week Emmerdale actress Shila Iqbal was sacked from her role as Aiesha Richards after historic offensive tweets she posted resurfaced.
