Michelle Williams is in talks to portray the late rock star Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic.
Director Sean Durkin (Martha, Southcliffe) is working on a movie about the legendary singer-songwriter based on Love, Janis, a biography of Joplin by the late musician's sister Laura.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and EW, former Dawson's Creek star Williams is the latest actress in line for the role. Her CV includes Oscar nominations for Brokeback Mountain and My Weekend with Marilyn.
It is widely believed that the likes of Renée Zellweger, Amy Adams and Zooey Deschanel were all previously considered for the part.
The film has been in the works for over a decade and isn't the only cinematic project to focus on Joplin as Amy Adams is set to portray her in a rival movie called Get It While You Can.
Considered the premier female blues vocalist of the 1960s, Janis Joplin died of a drug overdose in 1970 at the age of 27.
