Borderlands will become the latest addition to the list of video game series to be adapted into a film, following the likes of Max Payne and the upcoming Assassin's Creed film.

Father-and-son production duo Avi and Ari Arad have added the film's rights to their burgeoning video game portfolio that also includes Metal Gear Solid and Forbidden Planet.

The elder Arad's production history is mainly made up of Marvel films such as both the Tobey Maguire and the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man series and Iron Man.

No writers or directors are currently attached to the project, but Saw director Leigh Whannell was linked with the job in May of this year. No tentative release date has been announced.
