J.J. Abrams will be honoured with the Visionary Award at the Visual Effects Society Awards in 2015.
The Star Wars director will receive the prize on February 4 “for uniquely and consistently employing the art and science of visual effects to foster imagination and ignite future discoveries by way of artistry, invention and groundbreaking work.”
The Visual Effects Society praised the director's “distinctive ability to harness craft and technology in creating mysterious new worlds that transport and transfix audiences.”
Previous recipients of the Visionary Award included Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight), Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity).
Abrams is currently in production of the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.
