Inbetweeners 2 has made £2.75m in its opening day, a record for a live-action comedy at the UK box office.

The first film in the series followed the four likely lads to Crete on a madcap holiday. That film enjoyed similar success at the UK box office. In fact, the movie held the previous first-day record, taking £2.61m in its first 24 hours in August 2011.

It went on to make over £45m (56 million Euros equivalent) in the UK, outperforming British movies like Slumdog Millionaire, Philomena and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Only The King's Speech has grossed more in recent years, in terms of British productions.
