They were the golden couple of eighties TV and now the producers of Aussie soap Neighbours have revealed that the legacy of Kylie and Jason will be honoured when their son becomes a regular on the show.

The role of Daniel Robinson is currently being cast and his character is set to become "one of most significant" in the long-running series.

Daniel will be the son of Scott and Charlene Robinson, played by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, the young love birds who left Ramsay Street in the late Eighties after a dream marriage featuring bubble perms, mullets and Angry Anderson's classic power ballad, Suddenly.

Since then, Daniel has been referred to in dialogue but never seen on screen. “Charlene and Scott are the quintessential love story who have the happy ending. More than 25 years on, they are still remembered worldwide," Neighbours' series producer, Jason Herbison.

"It is fantastic that we can re-open this chapter of Neighbours' history for a new generation of viewers."

Now in his early 20s, Daniel will return to Erinsborough to see where his parents fell in love and will meet his infamous uncle, Paul Robinson, played by Neighbours stalwart Stefan Dennis.

Asked if Daniel's arrival would herald the return of Kylie and Jason themselves, Herbison said: "I would love to see Kylie and Jason return to Ramsay Street. They were part of such an iconic period for the show and fans remember them with such affection.

"We do ask [former actors to return] from time to time and with the 30th anniversary looming, it would be a perfect opportunity for them to do that."
