Second Captains Live is a new show where comedy, sport and entertainment meet in a knockabout fashion.

Beginning tonight (September 10) on RTÉ Two after the Austria-Ireland World Cup qualifier, its presenters Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early and Ciaran Murphy chat and play with celebrity guests from inside and outside the sporting field.

Each week the Second Captains team will be joined by three of their favourite Irish sports stars and together they'll discuss the week's major stories, drawing on their guests' experience of top class competition.

Says series producer Mark Horgan:”The show is going to be a mixture of sports and entertainment that’s a bit of craic and filmed in front of a live audience.

“We always loved shows like Fantasy Football League and TFI Friday growing up and the programme is definitely influenced by them and it also has a bit of a Nighthawks feel to it.

“One of the great things about moving from radio to television is that we can now incorporate some incredible old RTÉ archive, so people will definitely be feeling nostalgic at certain points.

“We're also very excited about having Ronan O'Gara over from Paris for our first show, he's always an honest an open interviewee and there's plenty to talk about."

The four-part series will debut at 10.30pm tonight, while subsequent show will broadcast on Wednesday nights on Sept 18, 25 and Oct 2.
