Richard Gere has been cast to play a hedonistic philanthropist in the new film drama Franny.

The 63-year-old actor takes the leading role in the feature film directorial debut from Andrew Renzi who has previously directed well-receieved film shorts Karaoke! and Bloom, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Franny, which was also written by Renzi, will see Gere play a hedonistic philanthropist who gets involved in the lives of a newlywed couple in order to recreate his former life.

Franny is expected to begin shooting this October.
