Norman Blake of Scottish guitar pop heroes Teenage Fanclub and Joe Pernice of The Pernice Brothers have teamed up to form a new duo called The New Mendicants and they hit Dublin (gently) for a gig this Sunday, July 7.

This marriage made in alt and indie heaven also release their debut EP next week. Australia features six songs, including a cover of INXS' song This Time and two reworkings of old Teenage Fanclub and Pernice Brothers songs.

As well as their better-known bands, Blake and Pernice also founded BMX Bandits and Scud Mountain Boys respectively, and they'll be delving into each other's hefty back catalogues as well as playing their new material on Sunday night.

The well-matched musical partners were introduced by Pernice Brothers drummer Patrick Berkley, who had been working with Blake in musician/producer roles with Norwegian band, I Was A King.
