EastEnders star Gillian Wright has said that she would love her character Jean Slater to be reunited with her daughter Stacey on the popular soap.

The 53-year-old actress explained that her character has unfinished business with her daughter who departed Walford two and a half years ago in a desperate attempt to cover up the murder of Archie Mitchell.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Wright said: "I'd love for Jean to be reunited with her daughter Stacey and her granddaughter Lily, even if it were just for one day.

"Lacey [Turner] and I are still in touch, and as actresses we have a very special relationship.

"It all ended very suddenly with Stacey's hasty exit, so I think there's a lot more to be explored between her and Jean."

Jean will find herself in a pickle of a situation next week, when she accidentally sets Ian's restaurant on fire.

When asked about the upcoming plot, she added: "Jean's horrified and can't believe how rapidly the fire gets out of control.

"She feels totally responsible because she shouldn't have been there in the first place."

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One and RTÉ One.
