The IT Crowd is set to shoot a special finale in the coming weeks, according to reports.

The cult British sitcom, created by Fr Ted co-writer Graham Linehan, ran between 2006 and 2010 on Channel 4 for four series and starred Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry.

They are all expected to reprise their roles for the new 40-minute episode, according to TV and comic book website Bleeding Cool.

Linehan ruled out a fifth series in 2011 but announced the news that the long-talked about special will be filmed in three weeks' time during a Q&A at the German re:publica digital conference.

The script was written over a year ago but the actors have been too busy with other filming commitments to work on it until now.

O'Dowd, who played Roy on the Channel 4 show, revealed last year that he wanted to reprise his role, saying the show's stars still "need closure".

He explained: "I'd love to do something more with those characters. I don't think we said goodbye to them properly."
