Zach Braff is looking to Kickstarter to part-fund his latest movie project Wish I Was Here.
The former Scrubs' star is looking to raise $2 million on the fundraising site to finance his Garden State follow-up so that he can produce it with "no compromises".
Written by Braff and his brother Adam, Wish I Was Here centres on a struggling actor and family man in his 30s who fantasises about becoming his childhood sci-fi hero Space Knight.
In a video posted on the project's page, Braff said that he was inspired to launch a Kickstarter campaign after seeing the successful funding it achieved for the upcoming Veronica Mars movie.
The actor-filmmaker said that raising money for Wish I Was Here through traditional methods would have meant interference from financiers.
"I was about to sign a typical financing deal in order to get the money to make Wish I Was Here, my follow-up to Garden State," he said. "It would have involved making a lot of sacrifices I think would have ultimately hurt the film."
