The step sister of teenager Anne Frank has said that Anne would probably have been a Belieber. Her words come after Justin Bieber was criticised for an entry he had made in the guestbook during a visit to the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam earlier this week.
Eva Schloss is a step sister of Anne Frank as her mother married the widowed Otto Frank (Anne's father) after the war in 1953. The pair knew each other in pre-war Amsterdam.
On Justin Bieber's visit to the house, where Anne hid from the Nazis during the Second World War, he wrote in the guestbook: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber."
He was criticised for "arrogance" in many quarters, including The Anne Frank Trust UK. But now Eva Schloss, who was a close childhood friend of Anne, has defended the Beibs.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph Schloss said "She probably would have been a fan. Why not? He’s a young man and she was a young girl, and she liked film stars and music.” she has said.
Auschwitz survivor Schloss, said of her Anne: “We used to play together, skipping and sitting on the steps together by our apartments.
"Anne was very lively but I was more shy. I was good in sports but she was more intellectually developed, quite interested in clothes and boys.”
Anne’s family fled Germany in 1933 when Hitler took power. She and her family hid from the Nazis in an Amsterdam attic for two years during the war but she died of typhus in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945 aged just 15. Her world-famous diary was published after the war ended.
