Keira Knightley is set to play Coco Chanel in a film directed by Chanel's creative director, Karl Lagerfeld.

The film, which marks the French fashion house's 100th anniversary, will be based in the seaside town of Deauville, where the first Chanel boutique opened in 1913.

Lagerfeld is recreating the small seaside town by building "detailed retro sets", reports the Guardian.

The cast also features models Stella Tennant and Brad Kroenig and actors Tallulah Harlech and Clotilde Hesme.

Knightley is the face of the brand's Coco Mademoiselle perfume campaign, and Lagerfeld has described the actress as one of his muses.
