Johnny Deep has confirmed his next two movie roles.

It was announced yesterday (February 27) that the actor will begin work on Transcendence in April.

Transcendence is the directorial debut of Inception cinematographer Wally Pfister, however its plot is being kept under wraps with no official indication of what the movie is about.

Following Transcendence, Depp will film his role as notorious gangster Whitey Bulger in the crime thriller Black Mass.

The film, which will be directed by Barry Levinson, is due to begin filming in early summer 2013 and will recount the real-life story of the South Boston criminal mastermind.

The project is being adapted from the non-fiction book of the same name which was written by Boston Globe journalists Dick Lehr and Gerald O'Neill.

Bulger was arrested in 2011 after being on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List for over a decade.

He became an FBI informant in order to take down a rival Mafia family prior to his arrest.

The infamous gangster is currently awaiting trail on 19 counts of murder, as well as drug dealing and money laundering.

Depp will next be seen in The Lone Ranger, which will be released in August.
